ZAP

The school I am currently teaching at uses the ZAP (Zeros Aren't Permitted) program. Basically this program enables teachers to "ZAP" students who do not turn in an assignment, and that student will have to stay after school, or attend Friday School until the assignment is completed. I am a strong believer in this program. Has anyone else experienced this program or one similar? What are your thoughts about such programs?

  1. I'm a big fan and a recent convert. I had never thought of the relative differences between zeros and F's (55%). If there is a structure in place that requires students to complete their work, then a program like this is great.

  2. I think that this is a great method for taking care of those assignments are not turned in. It is hard to give a zero for something that is not turned. The only question I have is how do they handle students who still do not turn in assignments and it is time for grades?

  3. I think it sounds like a great program. Not only does it hold students accountable, it better allows us to do our job of educating.

  4. the program sounds good, and i am sure that Mrs. Porter would like it. but i still have an issue with the no 0's grade thing. The biggest issue i have is that i may have a kid who tried really hard and got a 58% on a paper or test, and then i have a kid who didnt bother to even show up to class to do it...why should they get to same grade?

But if there was a program in place that i didnt have to deal with it then i guess it wouldnt matter! but my question is, what happens if they never do the work?
